Who Needs Liposuction?
Liposuction is a great procedure for those who are at an ideal weight but have troublesome areas of fat that cannot be lost with exercise and diet. Patients considering liposuction should have good skin laxity because liposuction does not address stretched-out skin. It is also important to realize that liposuction is not a solution for weight loss. This procedure is ideal for women who do not plan to become pregnant again, as pregnancy may compromise the outcome. During your initial consultation, Dr. Berhane will set realistic expectations.
Surgical Technique
This treatment is performed in an outpatient setting with the patient under local anesthesia and mild sedation . A punch-hole incision is made in the skin so a cannula can be placed. The cannula is a tube that makes it easier to loosen the fatty tissue as it is being removed. After the desired amount of fat deposits have been suctioned out, Dr. Tsion Berhane will seal the incision. Depending on the number of sections receiving treatment, your procedure could last 1 – 3 hours. In a separate area for recovery, our post-op team will help manage any pain and care for your incisions until your discharge.
What to Expect After Liposuction
You may need to recover at home from liposuction surgery for 1 – 3 weeks, depending on the number of areas treated and the amount of fat removed. It is typical to have bruising and swelling for 1 – 2 weeks, and you should have stitches removed 7 – 10 days after surgery. The most important thing to do after having any surgery is to give your body time to rest and heal. When you decide to return to your normal routine after your procedure, it is important to take things slowly and gently. To increase your strength, stick to short walks and light workouts as advised by Dr. Berhane. Keep in mind, you may notice some improvements after six weeks, but it will take around 6 – 10 months before your new body shape and contour is complete.
Liposuction FAQs
How much does liposuction cost?
Your cost for liposuction varies, depending on the technique selected and the number of areas being addressed. In your consultation, Dr. Berhane will develop your personal liposuction surgical plan based on your needs and goals. She will also consider your budget. When your plan is ready, estimated costs can be discussed. To make your cosmetic surgery easier to afford, Jubilee Cosmetic Surgery accepts many payment options, and we will help you find low-interest medical financing.
What about cellulite and loose skin?
Surgical liposuction only corrects excess fat in the body. If you have loose skin, Dr. Berhane may suggest combining liposuction with a surgical body lift. Lipo is often performed with skin tightening surgery, such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thighplasty, to produce the best results.
Will I have scars?
Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, incisions will be made and stitched. This will leave scars; however, Dr. Berhane will work to reduce their appearance. This includes making thin incisions in less visible areas or the natural folds of your body. After your surgery, Dr. Berhane or a member of her team will explain how to care for your incisions so they heal properly and eventually fade.
Will my results last?
Before liposuction, it's important to be committed to maintaining your results. While liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still lose and gain weight. Dr. Berhane recommends that you be at or close to a healthy weight prior to liposuction surgery. Afterward, it's best to remain within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. We have weight management counseling and supplement options available to help you stay at a healthy weight. Pregnancy after liposuction will also alter your results; however, another surgery, like a tummy tuck, can be performed to refresh your body.
